I have actually put the newer Audio 20 in, the one with bluetooth and MP3.

I have got the adpaters and everything is working well apart from radio reception. I have the adapter cable from comandonline, the one that splits the single fm into the dual, and now I get the stations appearing as they come into range, but I have no AM at all, and driving from Norfolk to Wiltshire this weekend I completely lost Radio 2 as soon as I moved away from the transmitter it was originally tuned into.

I checked the menu and 'frequncy fix' was off so it wasn't being forced to hold onto 89.7 or anything like that. And even at our friends I couldn't get more than 3 fm stations with the new unit in.

Any ideas??

If you do a search its been mentioned before on older cars you need to change one of the cables to a different position on the loom so the antenna amp receives power as the wiring is different on the newer units.

Think the info is also on mercupgrades.com

Thanks for that.
I have searched and searched for info but no joy.

Does anyone know what pin it is that changed??

OK, from looking at this more it seems there is no dedicated aerial switch on with the NTG 2.5 units, so I will get the multimeter out and see which pins give an output.

I have seen two lots of pin outs for the Audio 20 CD unit, one says the out is pin 13 of the main block and the other says it is pin 3 of block 2 or Block B as I always call it on a quadlock connector.
I think pin 3 of block b is the mic shield on the NGT2.5. Pin 7 seems to be something to do with the active cradle so I would guess this is outputting the needed signal to turn the aerial amp on??

Anyone know??

Im not sure of the pin outs , but the amp is powered by the rear SAM . This amp will also works for the key transmitter , has the range that the key works decreased now since the head unit swap

This only applies if your car is an A/B/C/ML/GL/R class car. If not the pinouts are different and you will need a loom converter.

Pin 7 on the white 12 way connector is antenna power from the NTG 2.5

This needs to go to Pin 13 on the main original quadlock connector which is where your antenna amps are expecting the power from.

Thanks. I will check and dee if this is actually happening or not.

I'd be interested in this mod myself, I have a 2004 E320 Elegance fitted with the original Audio 20 (single CD). I'm not really bothered with SatNav as I use Tom Tom in the mobile phone. I would however like to be able to play MP3's and my phone connects via a Viseeo adapter.

Does this newer Audio 20 interact better with the phone? I have over 2000 contacts and normally the phone is in the dash holder when I get a call so I can see the caller. When its not however the display just shows the number which very few of them I recognise :dk:

Also was it a straight swap out or did it need a little MB treatment to update the car to work with it (steering buttons, mike etc).

It works perfectly with the iPhone, bluetooth only but I then put it in the ashtray storage area on a charger.
You can see the phonebook and therefore who is calling etc. no problem at all.

You could selll the Viseeo to help pay for it.

MP3 from CD is nice as the browsing is dead simple, shows all track names etc. on screen.

You also loose the cd changer so this can be sold too to help fund it.

I need to code the car at some point to activate the phone buttons on the steering wheel as my car was not wired for a phone already, but if your car is pre-wired for phone this will not need coding.

I bought an adapter, mic and arial splitter which made it all completely plug and play.*

Unit is around £300 used on ebay, but they do come up cheaper, mate wanted £220 for this one, it is on loan at the moment while I wait for a comand to come up at thr right price. So this one is available if needed and you can't find one.

* I say plug and play, my unit actually has the aerial amp on pin 3, I think it is, on block 3, not pin 13 of the main block. So I had to change this over, now works a treat.

I don't have the CD changer fitted anyway so that's not a problem. When you get a call on the phone what is displayed on the Audio 20 screen the name in the phone book or the number. Currently I just get the number but like I said not a problem if I can see the phone screen.

Even though the car kit I have has the outside aerial unless you have a Nokia plugged in it does not use it, not had any problems with reception and seem to get a great signal.

Do you have a manual in PDF got the Audio 20? would be interested in seeing what it can do, for example will it read a DVD with MP3's on. I'm not familiar with this new version and only found out about it today reading your post.

I don't think it will read dvds, I will rip one with some tunes on it and try.

The unit displays the callers name not the number, as long as it is in your phone book of course. ;)

I don't have a manual and couldn't find out anything on it, wasn't even sure if it would show the MP3 names, but took a gamble and it did.

What car and when have you seen them on ebay for 300 quid. I've only seen them for around 2,000 UKPound and thats from Lithuania

This was discussed some time ago. The W212 Audio 20 CD manual claims the unit supports DVDs but it does not. Not sure if more recent manuals have this corrected.

You might be looking at the command one with DVD support, Satnav etc, most people go for that but I'm not too bothered with all the additional features it offers.

Sorry, the non nav Audio 20 is around £300, the Nav 2.5 is around £800 from some Eastern European seller with no idea what car it has come from and hence what it is coded like and whether it will be protected or not and actually work in your car, or you can buy from sellers on here for a little more but with a guarantee that it does what it says on the tin.

What Mercedes model/year did you fit this into W211 or W212 and do you happen to know if the part number for it is A211 870 59 94

It was into a 2006 56 plate facelift W211.

Not sure of the part number and now it is in the car.

Thinking of upgrading my Audio 20...
