Hello

Someone else we be around that knows a lot more than me, but I'm guessing it the latest shpe you are looking at? 2004 onwards?

Classic tends to be more basic, not as many toys etc

Elegance tends to be like a luxury version, alloys, smarter trim, more toys, wood etc

Avanguarde is more sporty, larger alloys than above, darker wood trim.

Your best bet woudl be to pop into you local garage or go on the internet and ask for a brochure.

All models will be listed with all the options so if you are looking second hand you have an idea what the car would have cost.

Very few mercs are bought 'basic' and ticking a few box's can easily add thousands to the base price.

Compared to a STi it will obviously feel slow, nice to drive though and far more relaxing. Inside the new shape A class's are very nice and compared to the scubby you will like this. You sit higher up great view of the road. Far more MPG.

Totaly different cars to near impossible to judge.

well its a 55 model and it cost 9,000 its the 3 door i am in the process of buying it i think the wife picks it up on friday but it is my wife that has looked at it as i just got back from work and what women want they get!lol i have seen the colour of the car and know its an avantgarde and it has had 1 owner and fsh and 24,000 miles on the clock! so i just wanted to get more info on this model and merc's in general thanks for your reply.

Hello

£9K it sounds like a good buy should be a nice spec if avantgarde also.

Post some pics when you get it :)

i haven't drivin many mb's in my time so am pretty much in the dark but i will post some pics up when my good lady picks it up! mb is reliable being german but is this model got any faults i should look for altho it is a dealer it is coming from i fear they may have tried to fleece my wife the price does seem reasonable!

The price seems in the right ballpark at £9,000. On the assumption you are buying from an MB dealer (and I wouldn't buy a 2nd hand A class from anywhere else) it will probably be just out of manufacturers warranty- not a good thing! However if it has a comprehensive MB used car warranty you should be all right for a least a year. The 3 door Avantgarde should be a smart looking car.:bannana:
Its a very clever design with the additional safety of the 2 layer sandwich floor giving better than average collision protection.:) HOWEVER the snug packaging of the power plant can mean expensive bills for any powertrain repairs at MB labour rates. This can mean an engine out job for things like a clutch change etc. This is the A class owners site- its not big on serving/repair /technical info ;) http://www.baby-benz.com/portal/ I think you will probably find it a huge disappointment after your STI sorry:( but some folks on here love em so who knows.

55-reg means anything from 2 to 8 months of the original 3-year Merc warranty left. If it's being bought from MB, they will top this up to 1 year.

But yes, an A170 will be very different from a Scooby STi.

yes it has 3 months left on the original warranty but we r getting the year from the dealership does the original warranty cover everything on the car likes of clutch etc etc i know my scooby is?
