Hello.......

What a nightmare......My Class 205 Diesel Estate 2015 130K miles is struggling

Timing chain was rattling, went to my local Mercedes specialist had a new chain fitted, since then........

The car is slow to start, it turns over for 4 or 5 seconds before it fires up.......took it back to specialist.....they ran some diagnostics and said it was injector number 4.....this was replaced....still has the same issue.....waiting to book it in again for another diagnostic test they have been advised it could need another injector.

If I allow the car to run through the (MPH and RPM needles move right to left) the car starts first time when cold but if its warm i am back to the slow start

Engine light is on......car feels like its in sport mode when its in eco.....and not sure its related but the gear selector on the steering column has started to play up so having to turn car on and off to get into drive.

Other than this the car was sound, full service history etc etc

Any advice?

thanks for replying

Its more in Dartford area but will keep name anonymous, needless to say they have been helpful and will run a new diagnostics test, but the issue has been going on since June

the big question is really how many new injectors can i afford if more needs to be changed and if all were changed would it fix the problem, the £1000 question,

Do they have STAR? If not get it to somebody that does. Will save you money inthe long run.

I'm sure it wont be the case......but it sounds like the timing might be a tooth out. I bought an ALFA to trade/flip and it had the same symptoms after a cam belt (so I got it cheap)....belt was one tooth out. All was good after I fixed that....KERCHING!

Thanks, i also saw on another forum that slight mis aliments can result in this type of behavior in a car,

Would a test run on the car pick this up?

Typically you'll have injector faults after having them out due to not being handled properly. You're supposed to leave them standing up once removed otherwise they will create a fault. I doubt they're proper mercedes "specialists" as you'll find this in mercedes WIS working instructions. There is a trick to make them work again which they should know if they're "specialists". Replacing is a more expensive way to fix it.

It does sound as though that could be the problem. I'm sure I've seen somewhere that, even though they're not moved during the chain swap, unless they are locked with the correct tool, it is easy to slip a tooth. Having said that if the chain is changed with the engine in situ, it probably won't be possible to lock the cams, so the timing needs to be carefully set up.

Surely it would run rough all the time if the cam timing was out, not just on start up

I don't understand what this means.

Mine ran fine once it started......possibly a slight lack of power at high revs but other than that it was fine apart from the slow start.

When you turn the ignition on but not turn the engine over the needles on the MPH and RPM dials quickly go from left to right once almost allowing the car to automatically go through the checks,

Thanks for the response, what the trick? is this something I can do?

It must have sunk in by now buddy that you need an MB specialist with Star/Xentry diagnostics software ?
Just sinking in:wallbash:........the garage has Xentry and provided me the report after they changed the injector

The lift pump is priming the fuel system during this time, so its likely you have trapped air in the low pressure side of the system.

Thanks, and i guess the way to remove/ flush through is to use the diagnostics system?

Hi All, thanks everyone for your feed back.....finally after some messing around with the garage decided to take it somewhere else, they have said the leak off pipe if fractured letting in air and dropping the fuel pressure, its get done tomorrow,

Great news. Hopefully that's what it is and nothing else!
fingers crossed here!
