Morning all, So I'm going to get my timing chain replaced, what would be good kit to buy, I was told that febi are good just wondering if anyone has used the brand

Febi are OK-eesh.

My recommendation would be either genuine MB, or Gates, INA, SKF.

Many MB forums put Febi pretty far down the quality list. A lottery. Don't be fooled by "Germany". Only "Made in Germany".

In your shoes, I'd get the MB part numbers and check out MB prices. I think IWIS is a good choice for chains but don't quote me on that.

We put new chain and tensioner in mine, using MB parts. Done by PCS, a sponsor of this board.

So, start with the MB part numbers and then search.

Thread hijack...! (well, not really. Directly related off-piste question) :

Most motorcycles, to this day, use chain & sprockets for their final drive.
Due to the exposed environment etc,,, they require fairly frequent replacement as a matter of course.
The chain & sprockets are default always replaced as a complete set.
Engine timing chain replacement is only ever the chain itself (as far as I can recall), the sprockets aren't even measured for wear ????

The camshaft sprocket wheels are replaced 'on condition'. They are expensive and often there's more than one, and they usually last for the life of the engine (apart for the M271....). Keep in mind that they operate in a clean and heavily-lubricated environment. This applies to both car and motorcycle engines alike.

At what point should the sprocket be changed? My CLC has done 153000 miles with timing chain changed at 86000. Mind you I only drive about 1000 miles a year, so I am not unduly worried.

On condition only. If they show no sign of wear, they can stay forever.

However....... your CLC is a CL203 and will have the M271 engine... on this particular engine the sprockets do need to be inspected. But even so, if they do not show signs of wear, they can stay.
