Looking for some advice.
Presently in my '98 W202 estate I've got a Sony radiogram in the car with a 6 stack CD thingumy in the boot. I'm not entirely satisfied with this as (a) I never remember to change the CD's in the boot and consequently am fed up with what I have in there at the moment and (b) every time I use my handsfree the radio switches off accompanied by an annoying beep,beep-beep,beep [repeat]. I'm assuming this is because the radio is not modern enough to have a 'telephone-mute' type facility rather than the bloke wired it up wrongly to the handsfree stuff.
I am thinking of getting a radio which will still work with a stack system (either using the Sony one or just making use of the wires if I change from Sony and doesn't support Sony stack) but which also has a CD slot in the face. I am also thinking of going with a DAB radio so I can get Five Live.
Advice therefore:
(1)Is another head unit likely to be compatible with Sony CD stacker or should I budget on new stacker, or stick with Sony.
(2) If new stacker then is the cabling likely to be the same ie am I likely to get away with not having to run new cables to the boot
(3)Does DAB need some form of auxiliary aerial and if so what's involved
(4)Reception issues for DAB in the South generally
All info gratefully received - thanks people.
By the way, I'm not looking to spend squillions on this - some hundreds at most.
