I know, it still relies on an ICE but the degree of downsizing of it points towards much lower CO2 emissions than with conventional ICE and, as there are no pure EV trucks, a step in the right direction? And, if pure EV trucks do appear (far from certain with the weight of batteries eating into payload) their recharging requirement will be massive and unwelcome.
Maybe, a bit niche - see comments re running lumber trucks in very hilly terrain - and not so suited to more road based on level ground (sorry Norfolk) but is there going to be a one-size-fits-all (requirements) EV truck anytime soon?

Have Volvo introduced their EV F Series range yet?

Don't know. I just came across the video and was impressed by how a truck driver improved (efficiency wise) on what is currently available - and his (and other's) attitudes to what is and isn't 'green'. His comments about the ICE to power the generator are valid. Any ICE could (more efficiently than pure ICE/non-hybrid) run on bio-fuel and render the need for pure EV obsolete - at a fraction of the cost and geo-political dependency (a point completely and very stupidly overlooked) of complete electrification.

Here you go:

We did look at getting one 7.5tonne EV, the range wasn't great and the cost was enormous, then we looked at the 3.5tonne option.... same again, especially the upfront costs.

Are any of the trucks listed there capable of running at 44 tonnes?

Our local council had EV trucks for a few months now:

Though I imagine that range is not really an issue....

Volvo reckon their FH can apparently:

Indeed a battery powered truck is the optimal HGV for slow travel in and around cities. For long haul trucks, we'll need to wait for Tesla.

I think this is where electric buses are going to win out as well.

However battery weight is an issue for HGVs - that Volvo FH specifies load of "up to" to 23000kg for the EV version.

By comparison are 'conventional' HGVs out there that can haul 28000kg and even 30000kg.

If a battery pack is say 500kg and the long range version of a truck has 6 and the short range truck has 4 then that long range truck loses 1000kg of revenue load over the distance.

Authorities seem to be aware of this problem as they are relaxing weight limits for some classes of Electric goods vehicles - presumably to allow the likes of 3.5 and 7.5 tonne categories to include EVs that are allowed to be heavier but still treated as belonging to those categories for licensing and restrictions.
