Hi all,

I'm going to be having some leather work done in the next few weeks and need some thought on how I take it.

My car is currently full black leather, piano black trim and alpaca grey headlining.

The plan is to introduce a stripe around the car and through the middle of alpaca grey to break up the blackness a bit. I've quickly knocked up some photoshop images to get a feel for what it might look like.

I'm pretty set and happy with how the front should look:

But I'm not sure if in the rear the centre section should also be done, or left black.

I would appreciate any opinions and thoughts on which option they think works best.

I'm not personally a fan of bold two tone interiors. They remind me of TVRs, which I love, but in my opinion is a good example of when you say to a customer they can have whatever they want, what they choose they really shouldn't have.

I prefer something more subtle. A good example would be e.g. a bold coloured stitching, with coloured stitched or embossed emblem on the seat or headrest. Or maybe subtle two tone panels. But not bold two tone panels.

Other considerations depending on plans to keep the car, what will next buyers think?

But ultimately, it's your car and if you want it, will enjoy it and it makes you happy and you have the cash, crack on. Life's too short to not have the odd treat now and again if you can afford it.

I've seen your other work, so I have confidence that what ever route you choose, it will be done well 👍

I have no concerns about future buyers - I plan to be the last owner of this car :).. Having said that - I intend on keeping ALL of my current original panels so the option to return it to how it is now will always be there.

The leather is a little bit tired in place - wrinkling in some, small nicks and indentations in others, so it does want something doing to it. Another alternative is just to get the parts repaired in the standard black - also an option to be fair but I'm worried it may be a missed opportunity to do something different (whilst you're spending the money to have it replaced the option to change it up a bit is there and doesn't cost any more)

I looked at a load of different colour combinations and for me nothing really worked unless I used to headlining colour (grey). Unfortunately most two tone cars with nice exotic coloured interiors usually have headlining that match the main colour (black or beige) so the second tone can be something different.

Personally I would leave the rear centre section black . How much of the armrest can you see in your rear view mirror ?

The rest looks pretty good .

Can't see any of it. My mirror is adjusted so I can just see the very top of the rear backrest.

I like it.....my wife's SLK in two tone was so much more appealing than acres of depressing black!....apart from the constant need to touch in the centre consul paint where Mercedes just painted a black one to match rather than using actual grey plastic!!!

Another bold two-tone fan here...

I don't think it'd look too bad having the rear done too in all honesty. It'd add some continuity right through seeing as the front console is being done as well.
I love the two tone C43 interior.

Volvo have also done them like that. My BIL had a C30 with seats trimmed the same way.

If you're not changing the seats to two tone then my tuppence is to leave the rear centre black.

Those lighter factory centres look lovely though

Thank you all for your input and those of you that shared your interiors. The consensus seems to be to leave the centre at the rear alone.

I may compromise and do only the centre rear storage cubby and have them add a stitch line and change to black right where that piece goes up to line up with the rear centre armrest. Something like this:

As I mentioned I'm buying used panels for all of this so I will have all of my originals should I feel the need to swap some back in in the future.

I'll look to post an update in a few weeks once the upholstering is done and I've had a chance to fit it all. :)

Some prefer the all black, but for me the two tone interior was one of the more unique points of the C43! 👍🏼

I've never been a huge fan of all black although will tolerate it if there's a sunroof to lift the gloom (as in my 211).

I prefer something much much lighter and/or two tone (as in my C43's and 212).

Aslong as it not hearing aid beige 🤮

Ivory / Grey is nice

Yes completely! Ivory/grey all the way. Always a nice combo with a darker exterior. Jaguar do it well. Also often seen on RR's and Bentleys.
