Hi all,

I've noticed that when doing a ULEZ/CAZ compliance check, there's an inconsistency with older cars. I'll provide some examples below: (Used this link)

W220 S55 AMG:

* LB53 BXA - Non Compliant
* KW52 XOG - Compliant

E46 M3 Convertible:

* LT03 KZW - Non Compliant
* RE02 JGY - Compliant

I purposely used examples where the newer car is the one which isn't compliant, but there are many vice versa examples. Also according to my research, the cars above only meet the Euro 3 standard. Could it be a case where some examples have slipped through the system? For the record, the second M3 (compliant) was owned by me when the CAZ was introduced and it was compliant. No measures/modifications had been conducted to make it compliant etc.

Anyway I thought I'd share this with you all, perhaps someone could shed some light!

Kind Regards,

Does it not relate to the point in time at which the standards were introduced and what time point was chosen for vehicles to be included?

I'm not aware that any of us work for TfL, so we probably can't explain it.

Imported cars can be an issue apparently. Show as compliant when the equivalent UK model is non compliant.

DVLA recorded/V5 declared emissions different?

Read a thread ages ago on another forum about Japanese imports which have never been homologated, if that is the correct term, in the EU being exempted from ULEZ charges.

Hi , I have a 1996 diesel Mitsubishi Pajero ( shogun ) imported from Japan.

When I purchased the car it was MOT by the importer on a single vehicle approval. The car passed but the description was incorrectly described as a horse box on the V5.

After a little time enquiring at the DVLA who in my case they were extremely helpful , I had to return the V5 to them with photos of the car showing that it was a 4x4 5 seater.V5 Form returned clearly showing correct details of vehicle and checked a couple of weeks later to see how the Tfl regarding the class. To my horror no change shown : one phone call to the Tfl and problem sorted.Car compliant.

To conclude the DVLA do not inform Tfl of vehicle type changes. ( Not sure of current status )

I drove my car into Tooting with no issues but recently checked status on Tfl site and the car was no longer compliant.

I very nearly purchased a 212 2015 Model car Euro 6 that was not compliant ( authority : it was registered prior to 1/9/2015 )

Bristol was worse, any diesel car before 2015 was non compliant, they have since changed and are a little more upto date.

Yeah it's the same in Brum, we had a 2016 Sprinter diesel and somehow that wasn't compliant too!

Imported vehicles can be an issue clearly. Show as reliable when a similar UK model is defiant.

Hi , you would think that central government would set the standard and collection type for cash
You would think that indeed. That would imply a government with a long term plan and a joined up strategy that could be understood and agreeable to the majority........

Kind Regards,
Regarding the "ULEZ checker" websites, they are not always accurate. When I bought my car (2011 S Class S350L) I input the details on the TFL official website and it showed that my car was not ULEZ exempt and I would have to pay the charge if travelling in the zone.

When I challenged this, they informed me that I would need to provide them with proof from MBUK and a copy of V5 showing Euro 6.

I had to get some paperwork from MBUK and send it off to DVLA and then got an updated V5 and forward to TFL who then updated their database to show my car as ULEZ exempt. Phew.
