Same age and mileage cars are selling on autotrader for anything between £14,000 and £19,000.
Expect trade in value to be much lower.

What does WBAC say ?

Why?.....it has no bearing on anything other than the WBAC price. Which is usually well below Glasses Trade values even before they chip you down for every mark and ping!!! :)

Because it gives you an idea of the minimum you would get for your car should you want a quick sale , the maximum sale / trade in price has too many variables.

(Very) Generally speaking the private sale price is WBAC + a couple of thousand.

Glasses guide is just an excuse for some traders to lowball you in my experience. Offers for cars I’ve sold on the car buying sites have generally been higher.

The last car I sold to Motorway on behalf of my late uncle, even had a dented sill (not noticed by the driver who came to pick it up) and accident repair damage to the front, both of which I reported after they’d got the car and they never lowered the offer…..

From what I read on forums Motorway give rather better offers and are less fussy than WBAC.
Offers I've had on WBAC (just for curiosity) generally somewhere around Glasses trade.... which they would be I guess.... they need to sell them at a competitive price and still make a profit.
Glasses is used by traders because it's the best guide available....and it's not just made up but based on what real cars are bought and sold for. My company was one of the reporting contributers to the figures on the caravan version of Glasses Guide.....but that finishes at the end of the year... which is a pain.

I've sold my last Merc to WBAC as we hate scammers, time wasters etc etc We also sold a couple of other cars years ago that belonged to our children
These days you have many WBAC types and often Motorway beats WBAC - then there are others.

It is go to get a guide and sell to the above lot if you want a better price than px or time wasters

With my MB c class in around Spt 2016, even though the young lady picked up all marks on wheels light catches she missed a small tear on my seat as she was busy talking the tear was a key in my pocket. She also gave me her own "personal discount" and I got almost exactly what I was quoted and I paid 30/35 quid to get my money in the bank the same day.

We've sold a few cars over the years often about a year old as my children's uncle worked at the Ford motor co and years ago got real, decent discounts and at times free insurance, so they'd drive them a year and lose oabe 1k to 1500 and change car - the number of no shows and time wasters was incredible - there were not any WBAC at the time IIRC

At times you can get a fair px on your car depending on what you are selling and buying

You will get more on PX for your car than WBAC will offer.... but that's because they dump some of the profit margin of the new car you are buying into it to make it look better. So if you don't have a PX you should get a better discount on the new one....... the two prices are irrelevant.... the only important figure is how much it's going to cost you to change... the amount in between your px price and cost of the new one. A big px price means nothing if the new car price is too high!

WBAC are good IMO. Yes, they quote a figure and will likely chip down (some bullishly) but they don't make things up. If a service history stamp is missing, or only one key, or a scratch is spotted, it kinda is what it is - plus no one is forcing a sale.

Guides are exactly that, a guide, but you can't sell anything to a 'guide'.

You need someone in the market, with money, with the ability to hold their hand out - and until that happens, acknowledge that the guides are just numbers.

....but those people holding out their hands are where the figures in the Guide come from in the first place!....if people start paying less for a certain model the figures drop in the later editions of the guide.

Agreed, but not always the case.

There are many cars (admittedly mostly EVs) that are on forecourts for a lower price than the 'Clean' buying guide suggests. Anyone who knows their market wouldn't sign up to that irrespective of what the guide states - but for some reason the guides sit firm.
