I went to start my ML270 one evening last week and was met with an array of lights on the dashboard, some flashing and some permanently alight, also a warning beeping too. After abandoning the car on the driveway and using a BMW instead, it came to reading off the codes. These are the codes,
P185800
P1858-002
B1040-000
B1040-005
B1040-001
B1040
B1041
P1040
P2310
P2300
P2311
P2312
P2314
P2313
P1875
P187501
P1876
P187601
P192800
P1636-008
P0100-001
P1403-008
P1470-008
P1189-008
P0600-004
P0600-008
P2201-001
P2203-001
P2203-032
P0500-001
P2204-002

Anyway, as you can see, there were lots and at first I thought the car had been struck by lightning at some point. I had a quick look on this forum for an answer and basically changed a couple of tarnished fuses and swapped a relay. I also swapped the battery for a new one, as I just happened to have one. The car started and all the lights went out so I took it for a spin, during which the ABS light came back on. I went home and cleared all the fault codes which were saved in the ECU and it has been OK for a week now.
Most of the codes were referencing CAN-BUS communication with various parts of the car, ABS, ESP, Transmission etc, with one reference to low battery voltage (hence the battery swap) and a few referencing open circuits of electric suction fan, charge pressure control, EGR and inlet port shut off motor.
My question is, what the hell was up with it in the first place?

You answered your own question. Low battery voltage.
All kinds of weird things happen when the battery voltage drops, and the fault codes disappearing after a battery change highlights the cause.

OK, low battery voltage. I've had this before on a previous ML270 although it didn't manifest itself the same way.
Previous to this incident (about a month) the low coolant light was on although the coolant level was fine, during which the air-con fan stopped working, the heated seats stopped working and the car seemed to be in limp mode. Searching the inter-web for a solution, it turns out that there is an extra fuse behind the fusebox under the bonnet, fixed to the side of the car. Changed fuse and all was sweet.
This morning while plodding along at about 35-40 mph the low coolant light again came on and sure enough the fuse (10A) had blown again. What does this fuse actually protect as I can see no connection between air-con fan, heated seats and limp mode. I also plugged in my code reader and the codes present were;
P1636-008 Electric suction fan open circuit
P0100-001 Hot film MAF sensor, signal voltage too low
P1403-008 Exhaust gas recirculation open circuit
P1470-008 Charge pressure control open circuit
P1189-008 Inlet port shutoff open circuit

Do all the open circuit faults relate to the fact that the fuse has blown?
Is one of those parts causing the fuse to blow?
Any ideas? I would be grateful although I have replaced the fuse, cleared the codes and all is well.

P.S. code reader is an icarsoft MB2

2 suggestions.

1 even though you have a new battery and have obviously done a couple of runs get the battery on a smart charger and get it to 100% fully charged.

2 get the car on Star for definitive diagnosis.

Thanks for these pointers, I have a smart charger keeping the bold ML battery topped up. Time to use it properly.
