Thumbs up lads, just want to share my experience here.
Partially removed front end(AC lines don’t want do disconnect them for regas) diving in to change alternator, water pump, oil filter housing, clean egr and posibly swap turbo.
I have basic knowledge and very basic tools for job I attempt any garage would charge ££££, done some in past so feel sort of confident here😁
Reason for all this:
1 alternator not charging no voltage output at B+ post had eaten brushes of second regulator within 2 months, slip rings on back are gone lots of carbon deposits, oil on the right is oil housing likely, but what’s here on left why all the alternator is oil gunked? Lin signal cable has been checked including glove plug 🔌 it and at ecu pins as per diagram and it all pass. pictures below.
2 water pump, had shredded belt year ago as was stuck, but now runs very smooth 🤷‍♂️, but it’s completely rusted as seems it seen lot of water instead of coolant prior my ownership.see pic.
3 oil filter housing, it’s evident leak there, also know om642 trouble, however I’m unsure yet were exactly its leaking.
4 EGR. I attempted to take it out for clean more than year ago, but failed, it’s was so stuck( gave up week later), damaged seal and it leaked water had to pach it up temporarily it worked.
Now had to remove it with subframe it all was gunked up completely( in pictures after cleaning gunk out).
One of four bolts broke off holding it in frame together with carbon deposits I have no idea how to get it out for clean, however mbDAS earlier indicated indicates that is working correctly however I doubt as as holes in pic were completely blocked with gunk no way air passes trough there 🤦‍♂️.
5 Turbo, this has brough me down to knees before and now again. First trouble exhaust back pressure high/limp. Changed back pressure sensor, now turbo overboost with actuator signal fault, I know the gear and soldering problems with these, but my mb DAS failed and OBD is my option now, so cannot do any actuation tests.
However will do signal and voltage tests with multimeter and take it from there, possibly change only actuator.(vanes are moving free when actuator disconnected).
There’s more things to do and check won’t list all too much 🤦‍♂️. I hope I manage to put all this back 😔
