Car
C270 Estate
For some time now, I've been reading the posts here as a 'guest' and have been impressed by the collective knowledge amongst the members!

So, as a newbie... I wonder if anyone could advise me over two issues with my car?

I own a 2002 C270 TDI estate. It's covered 67,000 miles and has been fully serviced throughout. Pulls like a train and returns good economy etc. However, lately I have found two problems;

1) On accelerating, the car makes a 'whistle' noise for a few seconds afterwards (not the turbo noise). Power is fine and revs are stable. It also gives a puff of black / blue smoke (only a large puff, not a full trail). I've read solutions that could be the intake manifold, intercooler pipe, intercooler, MAF etc. I disconnected the MAF and the car drove well enough but was evidently underpowered, although no smoke.

2) There is a very faint 'rumble' when driving (I'm the only one who notices it). On heavy braking, the front of the car shakes through the steering wheel and continues to shake slightly even when my foot is off the brake afterwards (it feels a bit like warped discs, but doesn't do it at lower speeds). In fact, it feels a little like the wheels need slightly balancing, but I've had this done, so it isn't that. Could it be a bush or bearing somewhere? No noticeable vibrations through the gearlever (it's an auto box).

Thanks for your help!

If you want help and don't feel you're getting it...just post a reply in the thread "bump" so it brings it to the top...don't just think you are not being helped. Don't go to another forum and complain about lack of help here...there are many who are members on both forums ...as you now are.

Sound like you need your front drop links replaced, I just had the same issue on my e320cdi and replace both front drop links and it made a world of difference, still a slight shudder in the wheel but only under hard braking from high speed, but I did also notice that my anti roll bar bushes looked a bit chewy so will need them changed also.
The other problem may be a blocked exhaust, most likely the precat
