Vito 2019 w447. Steering lock question.

Hi Everyone, a friend of mine has recently acquired a 2019 Vito and has been having problems with getting it to start first thing especially if it's really cold, when you insert the key nothing happens, no dash lights no crank but after a few tries the key works, also if anyone has a similar vehicle is there a steering lock fitted and when you insert the key can you hear it like in my old w211, an electrical sort of loud buzz, because in this Vito the steering lock is non existent.

New key battery may be required, might be first port of call.

New key batteries fitted in both keys and no matter which is used the problem is still present. I'm going to take the ignition module out and give it a clean later.
But what's baffling is there seems to be no steering lock in operation even when the key does eventually work hence the reason why I wanted to know if you can hear the lock engage and disengage on insertion and removal of key.
