Hi all. Newbie here requiring info and help on a strange electrical problem.
My 2005 Vito has started with a strange issue in that, occasionally whilst driving along, all electrical items cease functioning. Everything except the engine which is fine.
No dashboard, no lights etc.
When the van comes to a rest and is out of gear, with the engine still running, everything starts to work again!
I have changed the battery in the key, checked the earth bonding and the battery is almost new.
Any help or advice would be most gratefully received.

Make sure the main plugs on the ECU are firmly clipped into it. its located in the fusebox under the bonnet.

I would start with an easy visible volt meter, in the front ciggy lighter for example.
If voltage drops significantly or disappears during the issue. If so i would be looking for a bad connection somewhere.
Ground points,
main fuse,
feed to fuse tray.

I wouldn't suspect battery as while running the alternator should still feed ok.

Fwiw, I would initally be suspecting the alternator.
