Help engine management light on read code crank shaft sensor so got new one fitted still no good basically it breaks down when driving in rain . Then after 10 mins starts fine and off we go now with -5 mornings won’t fire but will with easy start new sensor fitted still says crank sensor help please

I don't have the definitive answer but,

which Vito?
Age and engine can be useful.
Was the sensor an aftermarket or from MB?

Since the sensor is (usually to my mind) into the bell housing from above, it's difficult to see how rain would affect it.
They are known to fail when hot and recover when cooled, so again the cold becomes a mystery.
The 639 is known to have poor drainage that allows ingress under the bonnet and then around the fuse enclosure and beyond. Is it possible you have water finding its way to the sensor electrical connection? But even then these connectors should be water tight.
