Hi, Can anyone tell me how to replace the two ignition coils on my W124 E220 please, Iv'e trawled the internet and I can't find any information on how to do it?
Many thanks,
Your engine is the M111 HT ignition setup is part shared by the W202 C CLASS
Searching for M111 and HT coils will get you more info. You can catch a glimpse of the coils connections
marked 1,2,3,4 in yellow below the inlet manifold- they can be tricky to get at! Mark or record the position of every electrical connection! coils leads firing order etc. the orange spark plug connectors can be very sticky to come off the plugs and may need to be freed with a lever taking care to only exert direct upward force on the ends.
Thank you for your speedy reply, it looks to me like you have to take the inlet manifold off to get to them and remove the wiring, this will disturb the engine wiring loom which I didn't want to.
Thanks,
Lester.
I have never taken off the coils myself but the W124 has a generous size of engine compartment. There's a support bracket under the manifold which might afford easier access when removed- can't remember if the coils are bolted to the manifold or the bracket?
