W124 e500

Where do people get off with these prices???

Is there a consignment of peruvian marching powder in the boot or something???

What is it worth then, I am severely tempted by one to replace the SL now we have kids, but I don't like the idea of 305km!!!!!

I see the car at no more than £5995 and it would have to be absolutely mint for that money.

Regardless of what people say that is a lot of leg for the engine in question.

From the ad: "New engine fitted in 2001 at 207,000 kms at the eye-watering cost of DM25,000! The current engine has therefore covered about 60,000 miles."

When you compare it to the sort of new car you could get for the money, it's a bargain really.

High miles is not a problem, provided those high miles are autobahn driving and the key items have been seen to during those miles, i.e. timing chain, tensioner, wiring harness and key suspension components.

A 500e with 200k miles that's lived it's life on the autobahn is a far better 500e than one that has done 100k in city stop start traffic w.r.t. engine/gearbox.

Provided the engine/gearbox are smooth, and the items mentioned have ben addressed, then the mileage becomes irrelevant and the car is worth as much as any other average 500E. the key components above can be seen to in less than 1500 pounds (incl workshop labour, less than 1k if DIY). So not a deal breaker.

HI,
I bought a 500E with 300000kms on the clock and its true that they are built well. The engine and gearbox should be fine but be aware that these things are very heavy cars and at those miles the running gear is going to have taken a pounding (mine broke a balljoint at 70 mph).
They tend to be high spec so ensure everything works and also find out if the wiring harness has been changed. 500's get extra hot under the bonnet so suffer from breakdown of the wiring loom readily.

They are fun and the mid range punch gets addictive so if you can stomach the risk of any big bills its a good car (not as this price tho!)

Toby are you still selling your blue 500e?
Thanks.

Sorry, silver, did it have blue leather? What are you driving now?

Thanks.

It did have blue leather - what a memory!

Got a polar white E280T (looks like ECTO1 from ghostbusters!) as have 5 greyhounds so need the space. Nice car but gettin a little bored of it now but with only 94000 miles its a tidyish car but not worth much if I sell so may have to keep for a while.

Another overpriced E500...

W124 E500

This is my neighbours car, i had a run in it about 6 weeks ago.

Its in really good condition, but the reason its priced so strongly is that it came directly from Ironside so he paid big bucks in the first place.

Don't think it will find a home for anywhere near that money sadly

Thats true.

Yes Toby, I definatly remember your 500E as I was considering buying it when you had it for sale.

The E280 is a fine car, we have a E280 saloon in tourmaline, and even though it has a few problems it's a beautiful car.
