W124 E300 Estate 1995
Hi folks, new on here, hope to draw on fellow members knowledge and experience. I acquired my 1995 E300 Multivalve Estate 6months ago and loving it. A good few niggles to put right but enjoying the DIY side of things. The most obvious niggle day to day is the drivers seat headrest stuck in its lowest position. I'm 6ft so it's sits way too low. The adjustor wheel just makes a clicking sound when turned so the mechanism must be buggered. Had a friend depress the rear concealed button whilst I pulled up, yanked, rocked to no avail. It looks like only option is to remove the seat back. Have removed the two screws at base of cover but cant get it to budge. Should it move up or down? Are there clips behind the cover that need undoing? The seats are cream leather in good condition so I'm afraid of damaging by using tools. Does anyone know the safest and most straightforward way of removing he seat back cover?? Many thanks in advance, CJ

It is a clasp joint, to undo it start at the bottom with a screwdriver and you will see how the joint is made.

Thanks WDB124066, appreciate the speedy response. Just need a bit of clarity please: do I prise out seat back from the bottom with the screwdriver? or do I start at the bottom and prise out the sides of the seatback or the leather fold-in of the seat sides? Afraid I'll do some damage, note that the seat will be in situ

Are they electric head restraints .Some cars , depending on the model ,,they are operated from the dash .What information do you see in the owners manual.

Look at the rear of your seat .You should see a dimple on the right hand side .Just look at the seat back and you will spot it .If you have leather seats i would think its electrical done with a switch on the dash .

You pull the seat back towards the rear, start at the bottom. The sides tend to unfurl starting at the bottom.

You can get fairly violent with these - they seem to take it well. I am not with any of my cars atm so I can't take pictures or be more precise with my description.
