Hi all I have a problem with my rear suspension when car is left for say 4 hours the rear suspension collapseses so the rear is sitting to low once I start car up it evens it's self out you can feel it coming up as you crank it over my theory is that either rear springs are tired or they have been replaced with the wrong ones as they look newish the car is a 300d 7seater any other ideas out there cheers

Sounds like your loosing pressure in the hydraulic self leveling system, can you see any oil weeping from the pipes under the car?

The spring should keep it level when the car is off.. That's the main function of the spring in a car with sls..

So I'd be looking at the springs

Yep I was thinking springs as well not loosing any oil should of said before cheers for your reply's

If you have no apparent leaks your sphere/s are possibly shot- these cars are essentially suspended on air [nitrogen]actually. try post#6 here for a useful explanation W124 Estate Self Levelling Suspension - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

Internal leak in the pump or control valve?

Think i agree Jaymanek as even if the hydraulic side is shot the springs should keep the car level when car is running all is even load it up car levels it's self the only other problem with what I can see or feel is when you drive it unloaded it feels floaty at the rear so presumably being suspended on the shocks

'Floaty' could describe an un-damped ride, which would mean the spheres aren't damping, though? Easy enough to check them with a (blunt) probe

I thought if the spheres were gone you end up with a bone shaker of a ride ? Cheers for the help everyone
