I need a new aircon expansion valve for my 2006 W203 C220 cdi auto, but its difficult to identify the correct part without buying it from the main agent. Can a member identify the part number, before I dismantle it.?

number 240 is the expansion valve . follow the A/C lines in the engine bay . as they pass through the bulkhead the meet at the expansion valve. On most cars they are a pig to change .

Thanks for your help, looks like a tough job but Ive renewed everything else so the problem can now only be the expansion valve, fingers crossed

What symptoms are you experiencing?

Fairly even pressure on the high and low side. I have fitted a new condenser w/dryer and pressure switch, as it wouldn't hold gas. The compressor was full of v'dirty oil and had slack in the pulley. There is electrical feed to the compressor.

Forgot to mention that I've fitted a new compressor

The a/c has always (I've had the car since it was 5mths old) been a bit rubbish on mine. It chills, but just doesn't get properly cold.

A dealer and the indie have looked at it. Been regassed a few times and had a new condenser. The indie I use lent me an even older pre-facelift W203 and that blew absolutely freezing air - he just shrugged when I pointed out the difference.

Makes me wonder if the compressor's actually running if you're getting equal pressures on the low & high side?

The air con debacle goes on and on. So far I've renewed all these parts which were in poor condition..... Condenser/dryer, Compressor and the expansion valve. Re gassed and holds pressure. Ive reset the flaps to make sure that the hvac distributes properly, but although the pipes entering/leaving the evaporator I still have no cold air. It seems to start reducing temperature and the fan cuts it ok but then returns to air temperature. There is no noise from an hvac stepper motor. I don't give up easily

Are the pressures still even on the high & low sides?

High side is 7 and low side 5, but when engine starts and aircon engaged the high side drops to nowt. The temperature starts to fall by around 5c then returns to air temperature

Measured in Bar I take it? That doesn't make sense. Are you sure you have your gauge lines on the correct way round? I'd expect the low side to drop to nothing (that would indicate a restriction somewhere if you have the correct charge of refrigerant).

Yes my friend has an integrated air con machine and the two connectors cant be interchanged. Both pipes into the expansion valve are cold so the only way I can see that I don't get cold air in the cabin is either both 'blend' stepper motors are seized or not being operated or the evaporator is blocked. What do you think?

Both pipes into the expansion valve shouldn't be cold, should be cold after the valve. Sounds like an obstruction before the valve to me, how far back before the expansion valve is the liquid line cold?
