I know my car is an C207 E class coupe 2011, but my light switch doesn't light up either, don't think they do from new, strange I know. So perhaps yours doesn't either.

lol, this made me chuckle as there was a similar thread back in the day.... the switch shouldn't light up if I recall correctly, something about a reflection in the side mirror?
I am 100% sure mine had a small clear bulb that illuminated the dial. The switch is too low down to give any reflections in the side mirror, Small bulb top left of the switch

Is the bulb in post #7 just to illuminate the 'P' park light position ?
I too was surprised when the light control switch on my 'premium brand' £50K+ (2006) AMG did not light up where as the one in my yr 2000 bottom of the range Opel Astra did .
When I popped the Mercedes switch out there were apertures to let light through but the printed circuit board behind it had no LED's on the PC board.
It came from the factory like that apparently. TBH on my car you can not read the switch while driving so not really a problem . I know where it is and what it does.
