I have a 2007 E63 AMG Estate. Unfortunately, there is a large crack on the driver's door glass (front offside/right). My insurance company and myself have been unable to source the glass from Mercedes, the major glass fitters (Autoglass, National Glass, etc), eBay or any of a fairly long list of breaker's yards. I did find a breaker in Manchester with an E63 however when they went to get the glass it was smashed. I'm now trying glass manufacturers to see if they could do a one-off for me but that seems a very long shot.
I can see no reason why the glass for any 2007 Mercedes E Class Estate wouldn't fit, but whilst some people agree with me (e.g. a Mercedes specialist), others (Mercedes parts department) say they are different. As an example, the glass for my car is part number MA211 720 02 20 and costs £335 + VAT, whilst the glass for a E320 CDI is part number MA211 725 04 10 and costs £102 +VAT. The E320 glass also has a blue tint whereas my car's glass has a slight grey tint. Is this Mercedes just ripping off AMG owners or are the glasses radically different?
Does anyone have any knowledge of the compatibility of W211 front door glass options? I'm tempted to buy a second hand glass from eBay and just see it it fits, although that may mean paying twice (or more) for fitting - I think my insurance company will only pay for one replacement.
