Hello Guys,
I hope you can help with professional judgment.
4 months ago, car mechanic was replacing turbocharger actuator in my car and he disconnected the engine oil separator. Turbocharger was making a sound like a hard working engine and when it was connected back after 4 months when I notice the fact it started making whistling sounds and now another mechanic told me that turbocharger is gone. Mechanic who disconnected the oil separator said that disconnecting separator makes no difference to the turbocharger and this is not his fault. I found lot of oil around that area. Please see photos below and please help with your judgment.

A nice lot of unfiltered air was sucked in through that hole...making the MAFs reading inaccurate and affecting the running of the car. Not to mention who knows what else was sucked through that hole and into the turbo blades.....its unlikely to have damaged it but wont have helped. The oil mess it not a problem....just clean it up. That would have normally gone through the turbo and burned in the engine....after covering the inside of the boost pipes and intercooler for a while!! Unless you have a intake leak somewhere a loud turbo whistle is rarely a good thing. Mine whistled for about a week....then lost all boost.

Seeing that amount of oil in that area its a wonder that the swirl flap motor has not blown! which it usually does when the intake pipes leak because the motor is directly under that main large pipe

Thank you friend. The hard ball is on my side of the pitch because damn guy denied everything. Other mechanic said exactly what you did but also said these may be a reason for your turbo whistling like a autumn wind and eventually will RIP.

Sounds as if you need a REAL MB specialist. There must be a few around London but, failing that, consult PCS in Horndean.

See. This car seen his best days and I don't want to spend much but I need to do something before sale to the next happy owner, especially, while it seems it's a mechanic fault.

If you want a London based Mercedes specialist, give Terry a call at Wayne Gates in Harrow NW London.
Often recommended by owners who have used him.
