W211 e280 cdi starting issue

2007 model
Car had been standing for 6 months
put a new battery into it.
dash board lights up all functionality seems to be there
starter does not engage or make any noise
any clues as to where I start looking
no issues in this regard prior to this

Standing outside? Check front/rear SAM/ecu boxes not soaked/wet.
