Firstly, please offer thoughts on flushing the coolant system? Next, please clarify where the drain plug for the block is on a e320. Lastly, if I don't flush system, I'm thinking I should atleast disconnect lower rad hose and direct a clean flow of water maybe through coolant expansion tank (or rad top hose). Thanks

If it's like the E350 OM642, it's on the bottom end of the radiator. Twist and pull out partially to allow the coolant to drain through the plug.

Thanks for the reply. Getting the rad drain plug isn't an issue and is where you have stated.

Ah, right. Do you mean is there a specific plug on the block? I'd guess not and go for the lower coolant hose as you mention.

I'm pretty sure there will be. Else how do you get all collant out of the system? Or atleast 90%

I'm not saying it does not have one.... but it must be 20 years since I worked on a car that I noticed one on.... so I'm guessing not. Draining from the bottom of the rad is the norm (which on noisy cars is the lowest point in the cooling circuit).... then flush it through with a hose, then distilled water.... then refill.
