From time to time I plug in my MBicarsoft II just to have a mooch around and potentially scare myself half to death reading codes that look expensive to fix.

I checked 'oil quality' and it said 2.27. Two point two seven what ? and out of how many ? ten or ten thousand ? and how does it know what the oil quality is ? :dk:

Oil quality is measured by conductance, same sensor as determines the oil level. No idea of the scale values though. The sensor help ASSYST determine the service intervals. As the level of contaminants increases so does the conductance

I wonder if the number is unitless and just one of the many factors that contributed to the decision that flagged an oil change being due. I don't think they used only one parameter.

Noooo! Not the dreaded 2.27..... there is no easy way of saying it but your car is doomed mate, the engine could explode any minute now :)

I thought that only happened at 2.28

I do not understand, why would something only happen at that time in the morning !!!!!

It doesn't really matter at the moment, that particular V8 is lying dormant at a car park somewhere in the UK for the next 3 weeks, while here on business in the USA I am driving a Camaro SS 'fifty edition' rental car, also with a V8 but pushing a fair few more HP at 445 from 6.2 litre lump. I will be interested to see how the fuel consumption compares with my own V8 AMG (not too fussed as I am not paying for the petrol)
I have so far done just one 2 hour drive from the airport to the hotel, but already know its fast and noisy but not very well screwed together.

P.S the service indicator on my car is saying the same thing as it did this time last year, so whatever 2.27 means the engine is on track to have a 'normal' service when due.
