Hi

Teaser for you all,

What does the E in E Class mean?

Thanks,

230K

On the W126 S Class "SE" used to stand for "super fuel injection" or something along those lines I remember reading in a W126 MB book some time ago.

Extra large

:bannana:

(This one could run and run!)

Before the introduction of the "classes", the E stood for Einspritzung (injection); after 1993 it became Executive

Please tell me that C doesn't mean Common :(

There is a German saying, "Mercedes starts with 'E'".

Yes, when you go to the museum they offer you an E. The headphone guided tour is nothing but doof doof music.

Should "Excellent" based on my experience today.

The ML is at the dealers, and the diesel C220 courtesy car we were due to have was off the road, because the last person to borrow it sent it back on a low loader after putting petrol in. So I drove away in the managers facelifted E280 CDi Sport - result!!

Deeply impressed. I've only driven one W211 before (E200) and was very impressed with that, but this one was incredible. The V6 280 engine is incredibley refined, with much less lag than the I5 270 - got real punch as well even from standstill.

Ride was vert good but would probably be even better without the Sport suspension, wheels and tyres. Inside was great too - not sure whether the interior lighting package was the same pre-facelift, but the mood lighting was superb. Map reading lights were great, and the centre and frontal halos that glow whenever it's dark out are superb.

Maybe I just changed my mind back to wanting the E63 rather than CLS63!!

C -"Costly"
E -"Expensive"
S -"S*** that's a lot of money"

& that's just the servicing! :D

SLK = Sport Lichte Kompact. / Sport Light Compact in English.

Not spelt correctly because my German colleague hasn't come to work yet.

There is a wonderful bit on Top Gear of Jeremy Clarkson being arrogant. He berates a woman for being dumb about cars and then challenges her to tell him what the "K" in SLK stands for. When she admits defeat he proudly announces it stands for "Kompressor"....

My car-mad German colleague has now arrived and adds this to the discussion:

"S" in S-Class was originally for "Sonder" meaning "Special", apparently.

He isn't aware of any meaning for "C" and "E".

I wondered if it was "kurz", meaning "short" like the H&K MP5 "k" :)
