I had/have a fault with my indicator/combi stalk.
The switch works perfectly when the car is cold, after about 10mins driving the indicator stalk will not stay engaged when turning right.(OK when turning left)
I have replaced the combi switch and I am getting the same problem.
The area under the instrument panel appears to get very warm which I can feel on the column shrouds.(Is this normal?)
I ruled out the relay, maybe wrongly because the relay won't, I don't think be L or R related?
Could the relay be at fault? Is there anything else in the system I should be looking at or could I have purchased a duff switch( not unknown but unlikely.
Help/advice/recommendation please.
Ta very kindly

It must be a faulty stalk as it is a mechanical action that cancels the switch

Have you upset it when you replaced the other switch

No I just swapped one for one straight forward job relly after getting the steering wheel off. the cancelling detent is part of the switch, I couldn't see anything on the column.

mine is the opposite.
It refuses to work from start up on the intermittent wipe only.
After 5 mins it starts working.
Every other thing works.

Took the purchased one back, telling them it was faulty, they wouldn't believe me said they couldn't change it due to it being specially ordered and to bring the car in for them to check. Main Dealers for you. The switch is now in a box together with a letter to the CEO Mercedes-Benz telling him of the treatment from the dealership and asking him to check the switch. Will see what happens?

Certainly not condoning the dealers behavior because if a part is damaged it should be covered under its own 1yr warranty regardless of the car's main warranty, but you can't return parts that are in working order unless they are parts stocked by the dealer normally a stipulation mentioned on the invoice.

As for the fault I'm with Malcolm on this one gotta be a mechanical issue with the stalk.

I understand and accept not taking back parts specially ordered when they are OK but to not take a part back that is unservicable is not on. The dealer would not accept the fact that it was faulty just because it was new. He could see that the switch had not been interfered with and in the very least should have taken it off me to check the part out and after doing so we could sort out what we were going to do. This is my complaint I could not see a problem as I was buying the switch from him anyway.

Malcolm, it actually will only go on in one position with very slight movement. first thing I did was checked the pawl for wear and the doesn't appear to be any. mind you it wouldn't take much for it to miss would it? I shall wait and see what MB have to say before I take the steering wheel off again.

If the part is bust then they don't have a leg to stand on, it will be replaced.
