Just been browsing on eBay and I am shocked at the price increases!

5L was circa £17.50 now £35
10L was circa £35 now £53ish
20L was £53 now £200 (maybe OOS and price is just to deter buying for now)

OK so you can buy 2x 10L but it's still double the price. These were from 'euro commercials' who must be a dealer as they always send me an invoice.

MB Newcastle also seem to have upped their prices although maybe haven't amended their 5L yet??

5L is £17.99 +£7.42 p+p (one off postage regardless of quantity)
10L is £42.97 + free p+p or £35.99 +£7.42 p+p in another listing
20L is £79.99

It was always too cheap. No other supplier could get close to mb price for 5l of the 229.51 spec.
It was never going to last forever.
You can use other brands, it’s all the same stuff. GM do one that meets the spec and it’s around the same price...

Also noticed the 10L oil, oil filter, sump washer, kit is now £54.99 instead of £49.99 as before... :(

Ah well still not too bad I suppose.

Ooops........Just noticed, 229.51:doh:
Mine was 229.5 and its gone up to £62 for 20lts

Hard to believe those increases are down to markets fluctuations. MB might have slapped their wrists for selling it too cheap.

Yeah I bought a load of this last year then went to buy some more thinking I would need more this year. Quite shocked at the price increase aswell. Wish i had bought double now lol. Still got a bit left yet tho for few more services. I bought my 20 Litres for £36 delivered to the door. Glad I wasnt only one to notice this when i went looking to buy more oil ;)

Correction 10 Litres NOT 20

For my SL55 (which was originally spec'd with Mobil 1) I buy Mobil 1 from Costco (which was about £25 for 4 litres) and give it to the dealer to use. This has two benefits (a) It was what the engine was spec'd with. (b) MB dealers charge you for X litres at the 1 litre price normally in servicing (instead of 5L at 5L price and 2 litres at 1L price) so much much cheaper.

I think Mobil 1 comes in 5L cans now, from Costco and elsewhere. It used to be £19.99 + VAT for 4L and went up to £24.99+VAT for the larger 5L cans (in other words, just under £30/can)

Still the cheapest/most reliable source for Mobil 1 I’ve come across, they’ve always plenty in stock too.

Other benefit of you supplying oil yourself is that you only pay for what you use. I’m pretty sure the majority of dealers charge the full fill quantity (usually at well over £10 per litre) regardless of how much goes in - eg 8.0 or 8.5 litres when they probably only use 6 or 7.

Supply 10L and see how much comes back left over ;)

How can you be sure that the mechanic in the dealers will use the Mobil 1 you supply, more often than not, it will go in the mechanic's car boot for a home job and the refil will come out of the 45 gallon drum in the workshop.

This is why I only use my trusted indies.

Not all indies will be happy with you supplying the oil. I'm lucky mine is OK with it after I showed them the invoice from MB Newcastle.
If you think about it, this is where they make their profits. Any deals for parts/oil/fluids they have with their supplier can't be passed on if an indy is to survive.
That workshop, specialist tools, Star etc etc costs a lot of money on top of mechanics wages.

Both of mine are okay with it. I suppose it depends :)
