I was checking when my next Servicing is due and noticed that the Range estimated for the Adblue won't match the Mileage to the Servicing, does anyone know the Adblue Spec/Part Number? or will any maker do?

The Mercedes Bevo App, is about as useful as a chocolate tea-strainer! :wallbash:

Adblue is Adblue is Adblue, Spec or Brand makes no odds. It is pigs urine o_O

:D:D Are you taking the Piss? :p

I was just asking as I know how far MB go regarding Oil Specs etc! I was expecting to be barraged with comments like: Only Tamworth Old Spot Pigs Urine made by Mobil will do! ;)

If it meets ISO22241 job done.

Halfords currently selling 10 litres for £11

Of course you can buy a magnetic adapter (mine was €25 on ebay.de and I think there about that price in UK) and slip it over the Adblue pump at the truck stop you can then tank for half the price straight into the tank... Sadly on my Disco Sport if have to do this into the first 10 litre Adblue canister I bought and then transfer as the filler is at the back of the bonnet, but with the Merc the filer is next to the fuel filler isn't it? The flow rate is about the same as a normal petrol/diesel pump.

I thought they worked with the adapter, but just slowly? I've read the truck fillers are too fast at full speed.

I fill wife's VW Tiguan, with filler under boot floor, using 5 litre containers and a VW (but I think the fittings are standard) filler tube and that takes a few mins to run in. Thankfully that lasts her about 5 months.

OK.

So as a misfuel protection for truck drivers to stop them tanking adblue into the diesel tank the adblue nozzle has a magnet keeping it closed incorporated in the nozzle. Inside the Adblue filler cap on a truck is a magnetic collar that reacts with the pump, opens the nozzle and the trucker can tank adblue. Most adblue tanks on trucks are in the range 30 to 50 litres (so no real different from a car really) and the flow rate is about the same as a normal car petrol/diesel filler.

Do not confuse this with the wider truck diesel nozzle which fills at a much faster rate so that they can fill the 500 litres fuel tank in only a couple of minutes.

When you slip the collar adapter over the adblue nozzle you are replicating the one that is embedded in the trucks adblue filling cap.

So I know when our Mercs finally arrive we tank via a filler next to the the diesel filler cap and the Estate's tank is mid 20 litres so I shall tank straight from the pump. The Cabriolet's is 8 litres so shall just slip the collar over the adblue pump and fill the 1st (now empty) 10 litres refill bottle I bought at the fuel garage and pour in manually using the pouring spout. My DS has a 13 litre adblue tank but as with all things on the car its fragile (in this case about being overfilled) so when the light comes on in goes 10 litres and its happy and I know its not overfilled. I already have my €22 back I paid for the adapter as ready bought adblue is about €1.00/litre here, at the pump is about €0.52, but I did see it at €0.43!! the other day but had only just filled!).

Does this make sense??

If next service is a B service or 2 years since last, don't add too much as it will be syphoned out & replaced at Mercedes prices as part of the service routine. Adblue has a limited lifespan.

Really, what a waste! More profit for the dealer to leave in:mad:

As a chemist I can confirm this. - It's urea in deionised water.

Pick it up when you do the shopping if you prefer; both our local Sainsburys and Tesco have it in the car care isle.

I worked on a Yara plant about 7 years ago and asked what is it you produce in this section, oh it’s adblue, what’s adblue I asked (got the full technical expiation), then he added, our name for it is liquid gold!! Apparently they developed it as a byproduct from fertiliser or something similar. What did stick in my mind was he mentioned that they were working with car manufacturers and it will eventually be a ‘service’ item!!

It's not lubricating your engine, it's pissed into the exhaust system to affect what comes out the back. You could top it up with water and the system would be happy.

Just wee in the tank.

Then wash your hands.

Amazing technology.

Servicing due in 6,500 Miles, Adblue Range = 4,500 Miles, I don't know what the next Servicing is, probably a B and I know for a fact that they topped up the Adblue at 15,500 Mile Service in December!

I don't think I need the Truck Type Magnetic Adapter going by my Adblue consumption so far, and I'm probably panicking that I will run out before the next Servicing, so the Halfrauds 10 litre at £11 is looking good to me!

I don't understand why MB would take the trouble to drain out a replenish the Adblue Tank on Servicing, unless they need to ensure that a certain spec is used, but if Adblue is Adblue, they are wasting money, especially as I'm on a Servicing Plan. :wallbash::wallbash:

I suspect that if you topped up your Windscreen Washer Tank before a Servicing they wouldn't drain it out, refill it and charge you! (or would they):eek:o_O

It starts to crystallise in the tank and begins to make a mess, that’s whey it is purged every so often.
You don’t have to fill it, just put enough in to last till the service, a coupe of litres max.

As cheddar says, it crystallises in the tank and unless purged, the crystals can block the adblue injector. The car won't start if this happens.

In my E350 the Adblue tank is in the spare wheel well and has a fairly small filler - you'd need a heck of a good aim to hit that!
I’d have no chance then :)
