white is the new black

I remember reading about quite a few Police forces changing from white to silver cars as the resale value was better when they sold them on. Certainly all the Hyundais I see in London are silver. Wonder if they will switch back to white? :dk:

I had white cars by choice for years, the last being a Saab 9-5 estate. Good colour for not showing stone chips.

Had a white car many years ago. Never again. In fact I am quite happy that my personal favourites - silver, grey and red- are now a minority choice.

White and black are the two worst colours to keep clean, shows the slightest bit of dirt.

My last two SLs have been white and my next car is also a white Merc. White is very much in for certain cars that can pull it off.

I never thought I'd buy a white car, mostly because they just didn't look right until recently. To be fair I wouldn't buy one now as it's popularity is likely to be a trend, but when I decided to contract hire a car it seemed like the ideal time to have a trendy colour! Very pleased with it too :thumb:

I had a white car some years back when we lived down wind from a steelworks. The car was more often than not a shade of rusty red from dust escaping the precipitators at the works. That completely put me off white cars but I suppose they may be ok now that we have no steel industry to speak of left in post-industrial Britain!

My 220/8 was white ; my mum chose it to match the caravan ( they were all white back then ) .

When I inherited the car I found having a white Mercedes to be a major PITA : people were always asking me to drive them to their weddings in it !

The change came when they started making white a premium colour rather than the basic flat colour it used to be. Most are now metallics or pearls so come alive in sunlight rather than having a dodgy cream tinge like they used to and not going rusty has helped on the second hand market.

Same trick they played with blacks a decade or so ago.

Regards looking dirty, from my experience white hangs on a bit longer than black before it starts to look dirty but then just gets worse and worse whereas black instantly looks a little grimy but hangs on at that state for a long time.

Rebirth of white color cars coincided with last great financial crisis and was one of manufacturing efforts to overcome that period when car sales were plummeting 60% year to year. On used-cars market today you can barely find white color car made before 2008 and when you find it, it will probably be W123 and W124 from '70 and '80.
I always liked basic colors for cars white, black, red, blue, yellow and my top favourite orange because of The Driver and this amazing W108.

30 years ago I resprayed my then silver Astra SR in white with matt black lower part.

But in the nineties, white cars became virtually unsellable.

Glad to see white is making a comeback....

black is shocking for swirls etc!!

Sadly I can testify this to be true.... :(

Had black cars since 2001.

In bright sunlight, the swirl marks look awful.

Yep, here's hoping you get it sold now.

With my BMW white was the only 'free' colour included in the OTRP.
I've also read that for the new BMW R1200RS there are no free colours!
Then I've also read that MB charge £10k for a yellow AMG GT.
It's not hard to see why white is so popular these days.

So true, and in general any imperfections in the paint like swirl marks, scratches, etc. Its dam awful along the sides of the car though where you tend to get tar thrown up.

I had a white Honda Integra DC5 with red interior and it looked fantasic, great colour. I wouldn't mind a white S2000 with red leather.
