A lot of my Albanian colleagues/friends tell me the same and when I lived in Greece I was told by Albanians that a lot of Greek plated Mercs are stolen and very often end up over the border.Shipped how exactly???Please tell me more as I'd really like to know where you got that information from
Interesting video, a country where people like their Mercedes. I had no idea, wonder if there are any other countries.
Edi Rama the capitals Mayor... bs bs bs
How many times have you driven in Albania in the last 30 years?Poor roads in Albania are one of the the reasons why Mercedes is a popular car in this country.
Have you been to Albania?uhm that video might or might not be true for the years till about 2004 but that was exactly the same for most of Eastern Europe. These days Mercedes make a tiny minority of cars with W123 and W124 all but disappearing from the roads. The W123 // w124 and w201 you could fix with a hammer and a screwdriver so it made sense to get well-built, cheap (in the 90s), and with plenty of parts available from Germany.
Furthermore, the video has our fearless/clueless Deutche Welle journo clinking glasses with a fedora-wearing Albanian dude. However the liquid is not clear (Albanian Raki, but rather whisky-like in texture almost like Macedonian Rakija. The clincher (pun intended) is when the Fedora-wearing guy says Zdravo not Gezuar, making this a BS video
The next most popular would have been the w210 which rusted to nothing and the w211 whose electronics made it less reliable.
As for the one that says stolen is the name of the game, that might have been true for a few S classes and E Classes in the 2000s but that avenue closed with the introduction of the TIMs border system that tracks chassis numbers and logbooks of cars entering and leaving Albania. It was mostly insurance scams perpetrated by Italian and German users especially those not wanting to be burdened with heavy finance post the 2008 crash.
Some examples there bring..
But Edi Rama has not been Mayor of Tirana since 2011 (for the mathematically challenged that's 11 years ago). It also cites Et'hem Ruka as Minister of the Environment who ceased to be minister in 2001. So again you are basing an assumption on something from freaking 21 years ago.
But it's always easier to blame a country you know nothing about based on a single YouTube video and a formerly fascist-supporting news paper that even Wikipedia thinks is unreliable.
Moral of the story, don't get your knowledge from borderline racists
I’ve driven there a fair few times. 2019 being the last. How many times have you driven in Albania in the last 30 years?
