I've been trying to find a low milage mercedes estate for the last year. Everyone says they are built like tanks and will easily do 200,000 miles with the correct maintenance.

Have finally found a model with just 19,000 miles on the clock. Unbelievable! You can spend 20k on a 3 year old mercedes estate from a dealer!

I'm having it checked by my main dealer on Monday and then its good to go on the family holiday this easter - cannot wait.

Does anyone in this forum have one of these classic family estates ? Any pointers on what to look out for etc in ownership?

hello again, nice choice of car should anyone have a mis-hap on hol:D

Yes. Look out for the man wearing the top hat, walking slowly in front of you.
;)

That is to die for....

Correct maintenance should be as easy as 123 on this model. Went to a wedding recently, and we didn't know what to get as wedding presents. He was a snake charmer, and she was a funeral director. We ended up getting them matching bathroom towels, labelled hiss and hearse.

On a serious note , if you really are buying that car , do check the condition of the fuel and hydraulic lines ( both brake lines and self levelling suspension lines ) underneath at the back where they go up and over the rear suspension : they always rot in this area . This is more of an age thing than a mileage thing ; although if this one has been kept indoors it may well be OK . The parts to fix are cheap but the job is very labour intensive .

Seized bonnet hinges are another 123 malady , the front wing has to come off to change it ; as preventative measure , lubricate the hinge pin .

In the same area , blocked scuttle drains fill up with leaves and leads to rot ; ditto blocked sunroof drains - perhaps you don't have a sunroof or it is covered by that vinyl roof .

Low mileage in itself can bring problems - be careful of old tyres and other perished rubber components such as belts and hoses ; fluids may need changed on an age rather than mileage basis .

I have had three of these cars ( not hearses ) : two to 200K and one to 430K , so they are capable of high mileage .

They're getting worse Mike. :D

Well, looking at the OP's name (Voyager) and his previous post, singing the praises of Chrysler, it's nothing less than he deserves! I think he/she has a similar sense of humour!

Oi! - that was my old mum's last car.

Nah - come to think of it, she had the Bentley.

These threads are almost as good as the tags "pea shooter exhausts" and "SLS is full of eggs".

I can't wait for the next Voyager update. :ban:
