I am currently selling a car advertised through Facebook marketplace and the viewer, Maya, is demanding I provide a 'WVN check' before she drags a friend out of work for a day (on Sunday) to come to look tomorrow.
I pointed out that WVN reports don't exist, so she sends a link to vincheckup UK which has very American text about federal checks, lien, previous owners and wants £32-£50 for a check.
It is clearly a phishing scam to get both money and your bank card details (she now already has my address).
Posted here to warn you and so the general public can find out about it if they search for either WVN report scam or vincheckup.uk scam

Yep... that's quite an old one ....certainly a few years at least.

The problem is that most of the car for sale ads on FB are either scams or small time dealers pretending to be private sellers offloading the garbage in the trade. And now the sellers are being scammed.

Only the gullible ones........and they will always be conned... if its not a car ad it will be something else. They sheer number of conmen doing this stuff and still "in business" means they must make cash and there were plenty of people that were indeed born yesterday waiting to hand it over.
Then of course they will be looking to blame someone else for their stupidty! 😃

I sold a car a few year's ago and the guy paid full price + delivery to his son who was at uni having never seen the car and all I had was an asda car park in Coventry
Ridiculous really 🙄 just goes to show there's people out there who are totally gullible, luckily im a genuine guy
