Mine needs a re-gas, so will have it done soon and hopefully they will put some dye in, I have a very strong UV light so will keep an eye on any suspect leaks.

So a dye would show up around the compressor if any rubber seals had dried out ?

Is that a true story about seals drying out, I read somewhere that it was untrue, the lubricant in the system will keep everything lubricated even if its not running ? Has anyone every had seal failure, or was it simply a leaky pipe or condenser.

If its the original battery then its time for a new one. I might have an internal fault that makes contact, but when put under load breaks contact. If it looks like this its the same as mine, but mine hasn't worked for years and as far as I am aware its only function is for stop/start, nothing...

As above, 229.31 is now superseded by 229.51. I use this on both my Merc diesels. It’s a bargain and you can afford to change more often if you feel the need...

I replaced my main battery fairly recently because of starting issues, the aux one is only used for stop start and hold feature, mine has been dud for 3 years, don’t need it really as always disable stop start as it’s a pain.

So did you cancel the deal before he had a chance to provide the history? Maybe he suspects you were a bit hasty.

What makes you think it could have missed last years service when the latest service is only a few days overdue ? Unless it said 370 days overdue. How old is the car ? That would give us some idea how many services it should have and what was required. As said previously it might be serviced...

If you have charged up your old main battery and everything worked ok, then 2 days later the stop start packs up then it’s your main battery failing. Even if your auxiliary battery (if you have one, some have a voltage converter/capacitor) is good, you still need a healthy main battery.

Great price, that’s about £50 labour, very good. How hard can it be ?

My 2014 E250 does not fluctuate, it rises slowly to around 90 and stays there, maybe dropping a degree or two but that's it. if that's any help ?

Surely they could do the basic A service, (oil and filter with a quick look round) ?
