W210 Soft Limp Mode list of causes?

Hi - Update The car is now running mostly as Mercedes intended, EGR mod done, and blocked off for good measure. Further fiddling got the car to show a P1470, so bought a cheapo chinese vacuum actuator, and all is well. Still showing P1664 - Electrical heater duff, I will get brave and strip...

W210 Soft Limp Mode list of causes?

Hiyer Guys..................johnb is back, with another S210 320 cdi !! The one that this thread originally related to was sorted eventually, it turned out to be a split in one of the intercooler pipes where it had rubbed up against the chassis, not visible and only found by running the car on...

ML270 W163 Front wheel drive only?

Yes I understand that, but the problem is with the crown wheel and pinion, so I thought if I removed the 'drive' to that by popping off the prop shaft, I maybe able to drive the ML home on front axle drive only. The rear diff is knackered anyway, so not worried about damaging it, just wanted to...

ML270 W163 Front wheel drive only?

Is it possible to rig a W163 to run front wheel drive only as an emergency measure? I have a ML270 with a damaged rear diff, so I was wondering whether it would be possible to drop the rear prop shaft off, and then drive it with only the front prop connected? Not for ever but just for...

    service reset problem

I have a 2002 W163 ML270 auto. When I reset the service indicator either with carsoft or by pressing button 1 on dash the display resets to 13000, but on engine restart the display shows 0 D and then counts down in negative number each day. So after 2 days it show -2 D, 3 days -3 D etc...

    2002 W163 ESP/BAS C1178 fault

Hi My facelift ML270 throws the odd orange ESP/BAS fault light, when I look with diagnostics it shows C1178 C1178 (Steering Angle Sensor Not Initialized) Not the brake switch - I don't think, mine doesn't have the pedal switch only the brake booster switch. It will reset, and be fine...

    OK, am I being stupid....?

While i was in there I checked the continuity on the wiring from the Air Mass Sensor to the ECU plug - all OK, Gnd, 12v and 5V and sensible looking signal - varying with revs on the yellow (pin5) wire at ecu end.

    OK, am I being stupid....?

Before I set fire to this damn car. Glow plug warning now come back on - been off for about 10 days - yippee. Do these engine eat glow plugs or what? With egr mod fitted, blanking plate fitted and remembering to clear error codes out before going for a drive - doohhhhh! Boost problem...
