    Hvac on W140

Odd issues with the dual zone climate control on my 97 W140. Temperatures all over the place, set it at 23 for example and sometimes it blows cold, sometimes not except the middle vent switched to cold is always cold. Got the sensor readings from it (not showing errors as far as I could see)...

    OM606 in 97 S300TD - intermittent "no boost"

This is the thing on the bulkhead, has a single hose connected to the body of the EGR valve Dropbox - IMG_20190620_203832.jpg - Simplify your life A quick search indicates it is indeed a MAP sensor.

    OM606 in 97 S300TD - intermittent "no boost"

From what I've read the EGR is the difference between the 606.961 (W140) and 606.962 (W210) versions - the W210 uses a MAF sensor to detect EGR function, whereas the W140 (and, incidentally, 300 turbodiesel G300) use a sensor mounted on the EGR activator. The word is you can't easily disable...

    OM606 in 97 S300TD - intermittent "no boost"

(edit) well I hope it can be persuaded to work, as the EGR valve appears to be made of unobtanium. The US didn't get OM606 cars, I don't think, which doesn't make it any easier, and the W210 has a different version. There was a G wagen used the same kind of EGR I believe... No, I don't know...

    OM606 in 97 S300TD - intermittent "no boost"

Should add now: the EGR has a position sensor on it, which might be faulty and would account for the intermittent failure. I think the pipe from the EGR to the gizmo on the bulkhead is measuring manifold pressure or something, as it's on the inlet path not the EGR operator.

    OM606 in 97 S300TD - intermittent "no boost"

interesting issue on the W140. The wastegate is operated by vacuum, switched by a signal from the ECU. So is the EGR valve. There's a second pipe from the EGR which heads up to a little unit on the bulkhead - my guess is this is monitoring the EGR to see that it is in fact operating...

    W140 5G-tronic question

Techy question. The new toy ('97 S300 TD) has, as far as I can tell, the 722.6 transmission AKA 5G-tronic. Now, I used to have a 2002 E class which also, AFAIK, had the 722.6 and prior to that I had a W126 420SE which had the 722.4 and on both those other cars, it had the rather cunning...

    W140 auto locking

well in case anyone's watching, the answer is indeed the locking switch on the dash. Hold "lock" for 5 seconds plus to enable auto-locking, and hold "unlock" for 5 seconds plus to disable it. Also, following the instructions, can switch from 2-stage to 1-stage unlock on remote, so all good :D

    W140 auto locking

There are no steering wheel buttons and menus and stuff. Yes, it's speed related, and likely about 10 km/h. I'll have a look in some of the manuals I downloaded, which although for other models, should be the same in this respect. Car is a late 1997.

    W140 auto locking

Anyone know how to stop a 97 W140 from auto locking when you drive off? I would RTFM but it's in Portuguese and for the wrong car :D

It's a good colour. I'm not so keen on the W140 in light colours.

    W140 S300TD 1997 owners manual

might be worth a shot. I downloaded a bunch of them in a rar archive for a few bucks, but they don't have the 97 S300 TD. I might call in the dealer just for the laughs. The book in it is in Portuguese, so even though not correct for the car it's the correct language seeing as it was ordered...

    W140 S300TD 1997 owners manual

Anyone know where I can get one, either pdf or ideally on paper if not too pricey. Just got this W140, which comes with a handbook/owners manual, except when I looked the manual is for a C140 coupe, not for a saloon/sedan. Note, I've already seen the various links to Mercedes USA (doesn't...

    My latest Merc.

Not what I was actively seeking, but it's in good condition and all seems to work. S300 TD, OM606 engine.

    W169 A150 aircon

Hmmm. Well I can see where the sensor is, and the wiring seems intact. Can't actually reach it to unplug the wire and test it, mind - it might be do-able from underneath with a pit or lift though. Next trick is to rig a 12V supply and see if the clutch on the pump works, I think, which would...
