I bet on an alternator fault. Not enough voltage going to the ABS computer will trip the light to come on which is linked to the ASR and some function of the cruise to determine the speed at the wheels. Take it to a motor factor to determine if your battery is ok (if you got it from someone...

I saw a 1998 S reg W124, it was a E220. I know the person who bought it. It was unregistered, the last one with the dealer in wolverhampton. When he bought it, they registered it, it came with the S registration! Its still around, although my 300CE is in better condition.

you need the concentric ones, the ones with the big washers on either end to adjust the camber. The above are wrong. They're about £12 each from the dealer.
