    Flooring the accelerator

    On the odd rare occassion, i have floored the accelerator from standsill... the car takes off, but once it reaches the redline/rev limiter it doesn't seem to want to change up a gear unless i back off the accelerator. This being my 1st auto, is this how it should be ie normal?
