Who thinks there is valid reason and it is important for number plates to be in the correct font and spacing?

I just nipped out to post a letter (Strand, central London) and saw a LWB Maybach (in white!) with the registration "L1" ... in an italic font :rolleyes:

ive seen alot of cars recently that have been ditching their front numberplates and smoothing the bumper out. i suppose my question is by law do we need to display a front numberplate or only a rear one?
