refuelling

When I re-fuel my car in continental Europe I can put the fuel nozzle in the filler, clip the trigger in the ‘on’ position and then keep warm in the car, clean the windscreen etc. until the pump cuts out and the tank is full. Why can’t I do this in the UK?

Ah well, deep breath, here goes ... I have an embarrasing problem ... Having taken delivery of my E220 just under a month ago I have had to refuel twice. Both times on reserve. My problem is the pump just cuts out if I try to pull the trigger back completely. Fine if I want to deliver diesel...
