I have noticed my rear 19" 9.5j alloys on 275/30's, have already been scuffed. I was aware of my doing one, exiting a damn car park, but the other marks have been caused by poor road surface - one being the A38 exiting birmingham towards M6 today. I know my tyres are not ideal and leave the...

    Wider tyres

Why do the people put wider tyres (for example: 205 cm wide instead of 195 cm wide) when authorized services do not recommend such modifications? Which parts of car can you damage by doing this?

    Winter wheels - slightly wider?

So I was talking to a tyre place about winter wheels today, and the guy said that usually people go a little bit wider. For my 215/55R16s he suggested buying 225/55R16's. Question: is this common practice, is it safe, and would you recommend it? -simon
