If you're looking for cheap oil, this will be hard to beat if you have a clubcard.

Tesco 5W40 Fully Synthetic Oil 4L - £10 until 14-April-2021
(I don't know what the MB specs are, but I would guess it's the same as the 5W30 below, but you would need to check).

Tesco 5W30 Fully Synthetic Oil High Mileage 4L
Meets MB229.31/229.31 (Note: this is NOT the C3 varient, which only meets MB229.31)

Wow that’s cheap

That ain't cheap and it ain't made by Comma....
Sorry buddy, I was trying to be helpful; I didn't mean to mislead people. It was 2nd hand information on the brand.

And again, sorry if anyone reads this as well misled by my comments that this is cheap. I didn't realise this wasn't a good deal when I posted it. Again, just trying to be helpful but obviously failing.

Not sure if it makes any practical difference who makes it, my interest was academic on nature.

As for the price... 4L of MB229.51 oil for a tenner is a bargain, surely? I don't think you can get it much cheaper than that (other then buying the oil in much larger containers). Happy to be corrected, if someone knows of a better price for 4L of MB229.51 oil.

Don't get me wrong it's not bad .

Just that I've come across some prices that you think would be incorrect and or the supermarket manager had a bump on the head , lol .

I don't think this is the case here.... the price is on Tesco's online shop, not a sticker on a bottle in a local shop:

It's the club card price , so lower price if you have one , and it's not bad for what it is if you happen to have a Tesco local ...and need some oil and it suits your engine and you do not feel like trawling the internet and waiting for oil to be delivered etc etc .

So , all in all a good deal.

So a bit like Costco's Mobil1 deals, then....

I just avoid all the hassle and buy the MB packaged oil, no clue who makes it but couldn’t care tbh. My car is high mileage and has always had the MB branded oil and it runs perfectly with no issues.

Well, I'll be picking some up with my click and collect shop tomorrow for....

My dad's vintage lawn tractor (Wheel Horse).
So nothing to do with a Merc. The engine only takes just over a litre, so not much point having a 20L Merc ecocube of oil in his shed for over a decade.
It's better than the oil that was around at factory fill in the early 70s, and it has NO FILTER. You just dump and replace the oil every 100 hours max. I couldn't believe it the first time I did an oil change just after he bought it. I spent ages looking for a filter!

Are you all buying MB oil direct from the Dealers?

Yes. Due to Block Exemption, MB UK were able to practically impose a ban on sale of genuine MB parts outside of their franchised dealer network. This is a concession to car manufacturers, in return for which they are forced to supply parts, special tools, diagnostic equipment, and access to computer systems for non-franchised garages. They have put in a provision where garages that buy genuine MB parts under Block Exemption commit to not sell these parts other than as part of a service or repair that they carry out themselves, or they risk losing access to MB parts and other resources. The end result is that genuine MB parts are only available for purchase from franchised MB dealers (some of them have an eBay store).

That said, you do get the odd genuine MB part that pops-up on eBay from time to time, as a result of some independent garages 'offloading' genuine MB parts to eBay traders via the back door. But this practice is not very common (because it will attract 'unwanted attention' from MB UK...).
