02 S500 - warning beeps

Hi, I havent long bought my S500 on an 02 plate - apologies I'm a beginner and don't know my exact model number
The problem I am having is as follows:
When I go to second ignition I get two audible warnings one short and one longer. The display shows "no Malfunctions"

On further investigation, I discovered a small switch and LED hanging on some wires next to the ODB socket by the bonnet open handle in the footwell. With the swtich on (i assume, as the green LED is lit) I get the beeps, when I switch it off (LED is off) I dont get any beeps.

Any ideas anyone as to what this switch could be doing !!??

The only thing you could really do is to drop down the cover where the wiring is and see if you can trace it back to where is goes
