03 SL55 Cat D - £17k !!

Wouldn't touch a CAT D sports car (that is normally very fine tuned) - with your barge pole.

Saying that I think the pics are not very clear and the doors/boot appear not to be aligned correctly either.

Looks tempting, but..... as has been said, what is the £800 spend for? and why is it a Cat D? This is almost Main Dealer SL500 money too. Doesn't seem cheap enough to me.

Looks like a cheap car, remember £16,995 would be the starting price ;)

£15K? £16K, who knows!

Is the steering wheel supposed to be black?

Will

Remember it has 200 more horses under the bonnet than an SL500

£800 might be to touch up stonechips ? bonnet respray ? 'to make it mint' ?

Very true. It is another one of those annoying adverts that lacks any kind of detail, begs more questions than it answers and doesn't entice prospective purchasers from parting with cash!

Initially i wondered if it may be a scam of some kind , as you say , the lack of detail for a advert selling a car like that is perplexing ....

There was a black 03 SL55 that sold for 22k yesterday at Blackbushe....

I think the car can sell in bits for more than 17k

I don't fully understand why people sell vehicles as cat 'D', they are more often than not superficial damage that is too expensive to repair at main dealer prices. Yet fully repairable at a good independent (often where a main dealer would send it anyhow).

An Autolign inspection is no more than £200, it's actually what an MOT should be, a three hour inspection of the vehilce, under over and inside.

It's then removed from the Cat 'D' list and registered as "Inspected".

All the insurance problems are then removed (i.e. many insurers will refuse to cover Categorised vehicles or reduce the value of them to a degree it's not worth the insurance premium).

A car of this value and type if repaired to a good standard is worth getting inspected, why would He not have had that done?

Good point. Although car of this nature are difficult to sell in the current climate, the outcome for him would be that the SL would command a much higher asking price.

It is a nearly 6 yr old car with 2 service stamps (and cynical old me bets it was last serviced 3 yrs ago) and it was Cat D in 2004 when it would have been a £60 - 70k value car - so Cat D could have been quite a lot of £££££ "superficial" body repairs.
So, lack of proper SH = probably no mileage accuracy + been passed around in the trade + loads of panel repairs = just the sort of car that proves the old adage of "if something looks too good to be true" - well you know the rest.

Give it a wide berth even at £10k unless all you want to do is sell it for 11.

his number doesn't work....i feel there is something fishy about this
