Hi

I'm new to the forum and have only owned a Vito for 3-4 weeks and already I have a host of problems which have left me a little dejected by the purchase.

The van is going in Tuesday for a service and full brake swap due to brake wear indicator warning coming on only last week. I've had the DPF warning go on and since go off after adding some additive to the fuel tank

But more worryingly yesterday going on to the motorway the van wouldn't go above 80mph it's done this once before again on a 10mile motorway run but when I slowed down to come off the motorway yesterday I got a red warning indicator saying Reduce Oil Level ? On the service should I be requesting the fitting the K&N AIR FILTER ?

Can anyone give me some options as to faults(s) - should I get the mechanic to give it a full diagnostic hooked up to the computer, will that reveal the issues ? There is some warranty on this vehicle (2mnths) it has 137k on it and I opted for a newer MERC over another Ford as a few friends had said there engines are bullet proof but I'm starting to think I've bought a bad one .

Thanks in advance for any help offer - Rob

Hi & Welcome to the madhouse..

Since the vehicle is under warranty its best to get the mechanic to give it the full once over especially for piece of mind.. then work from there. K&N is an option only you can choose.. there are naysayers on here that poo poo the use of such Items, then there are others that vouch for them so really, you have to make the choice.. I can't say, as I'm an advocater of such..and haven't had any issues..

With regards the loss of power may be down to a number of things hence why its best to get a a full low down on the van..

And NO you've not bought a bad one.. just one that may need a little TLC..

Reduce oil level warning needs to be heeded, check not getting diesel into engine oil , could be injector problem?

Hi

Thanks for the replies, the place where I bought it are being difficult - looking for there garage to carry out half day checks and botch ups, so I've instructed a MB vito mechanic independently to carry out the intermediate work so I can still safely drive the vehicle and work with it. I also have play in the steering column even though that's an instant fail - I have a full 12 months MOT and gear selector / cable problems.

I'm getting an A service done so that will address the oil issue but hoping that a computer diagnostic will highlight any further issues with block at 80mph? As mentioned injectors etc - Will that be the case as I've never had it done before ? Then at least I will have a list of faults to at least legally seek some recompense or decide wether to continue with vehicle at all?

Thanks Rob

Can we have photos of your van please? Oh, and where did you purchase it from.. I ask this as I went to see one in Liverpool a couple of years back and it was a dog then... just in case it was the same dealer..

Hi

Just a reply and answer should anyone else be in the same position. the MB MECHANIC did a full 'A service' on the van and told me about the need to adjust the oil levels correctly to stop the Reduce Oil Light issue, especially when servicing. He then mentioned that problem experienced might be a limiter issue and that fleet vehicles can have two types of limiter fitted, both removable but one more costly.

After a £50 diagnostic he removed the limiter and after new brakes all round and the service the van now drives like a different vehicle - he has highlighted some minor advisories after the inspection which I am working through.

Thanks for the help

Glad it seems to be working out for you
