According to the wheel info on my fuel cap door I can have 245/45/17 on my E250 AMG. I've currently got 19" but fed up with tyre damage and couple of cracked alloys. Has anyone made this change themselves?

Not changed wheels down in size on a car but I deliberately went for smaller rims on my last car change (20" CL > 19" S Class).

So much easier to live with the ride is much improved ; not to mention I don't worry about damaging the rims so much (at all) with a much larger profile.

We have 17" wheels and winter tyres on the E220 estate at the moment - a much more comfortable ride than the 19" wheels wheels with summer tyres.

I'm going to get a set off all-season tyres for the 17" wheels and leave them on all year round.

On my E500 A207, currently I have 18" wheels and winter tyres - again noticeably more comfortable ride compared to the 19" wheels with summer tyres.

Whilst I didn't change mine, when I specced my E-coupe (quite a while ago), I test drove several and much preferred the ride on 17" wheels, so went for that size. Not once have I thought 'I'd rather being driving on 19" wheels'. Of course, that might be because they've made huge progress in the years since I bought it in resurfacing most roads in the UK with smooth tarmac. They have, haven't they?

I'd accept that the 19" wheels might look better but, for me, that's as far as it goes. However, the ride/looks issue/balance is a purely personal one.

Those are the wheels I've currently got the ones on the car with the hood up

I've found them quite easy to curb! The 18"s less so.
