Mercedes 190e LE
Hi all, I have just taken ownership of a Mercedes 190e LE 2.0 Auto. However the more I see pics of others around, I become less convinced mine is a Genuine LE.

My Spec

Reg 01/08/1993
Brilliant Silver
Walnut Interior
Electrics Windows front and rear
15 hole alloys
Rear Spoiler

I am yet to see an LE with the 15 hole alloys, spoiler or without the crome line under the LE badge, as in like the 190e badge on the rear.

Many Thanks

Rob

Mr Wiki is quotin g the following, I hope it is of help

Limited Editions
1991–1993 Mercedes-Benz 180 E (Australia)

For the UK and Irish market a special edition 190 was released for the 1993 model year. The car was given the badge name 190LE though on the rear boot lid it read 190E (on the left hand side of the lock) and LE on the right hand side. Roughly 1000 LEs were produced and each one came with a large A3 sized certificate giving each car a unique number.

LEs were available in three colours only; Azzuro Blue (blue/purple), Brilliant Silver and Rosso Red (Burgundy). The Azzuro blue coloured cars came with a grey checked cloth interior, the silver ones with black checked cloth and the Rosso Red with biscuit/cream checked cloth.

Some believe that the LE was marketing ploy used by Mercedes to clear out their parts bin. LEs were equipped with extra features that had been options on the other models and were only available with the 1.8 or 2.0 litre engine. Both the 1.8 and 2.0 litre engine came equipped with a standard electric tilt and slide steel sunroof, four electric windows, electric aerial, 8 hole alloy wheels, Blaupunkt Verona CR43 Radio/cassette and walnut wood trim (as opposed to Zebrano wood). The 2.0 litre engined version had in addition rear headrests and a front armrest. This represented a huge cost saving of nearly £3500 when compared to an identical specced non-LE 1.8 car and roughly £2000 for a identically specced 2.0 litre non-LE car.

No further options could be added to LE cars from the factory - though some were equipped with other dealer installed items.

In Australia a limited run of 180E W201 cars could be bought from 1991 to 1993.

If you contact your local dealer with the chassis number , they should be able to confirm whether your car is an LE .

The spec sounds right , with alloys and spoiler possibly having been added later .

Also worth mentioning that the wheels and spoiler could have been extras ordered by the first owner.

As Derek say's the spec sounds correct. The only 190's to have walnut as standard where the LE's. all other 190's got Zebrano as standard.

Hi guys,

many thanks for your help, I will take a ride to my locate MB dealer

Rob

Will, has got a 190E LE, or did have last time I spoke to him.

Sure he will be along soon with some of his good advice.

Just found at the front of the service book, it states it is an LE, this hopefully should confirm that it is genuine.

Hi Rob,

I own an LE and it was me who wrote the article on LEs onWikipedia that was quoted.

Yours is an LE. The registration date is right, so is the walnut trim and the colour. The 15 hole wheels aren't original (they came with the 8 hole as standard) so somebody must have replaced them somewhere down the line.

The spoiler IIRC was a dealer fit optional item. Some LEs have them and some don't (like my own).

Don't bother going to the dealer, they won't know anything about it. I contacted MBUK HQ to find out some more info only to be told that the LE badge must have been stuck on by a previous owner (perhaps as a Halfords accessory!) and that there was no such model as a 190LE. They were a little sheepish when I emailed them a copy of the original LE brochure...

Do you have any pictures of your car?

I need to take some decent pictures, I have added one but it was taken from my mate house on my mobile. When the whether stops being crap i'll take some good pictures of it.
