We have a stag do planned for May/June of next year and plan to do a tour of some of Europe in this coach.

I have never worked on such a vehicle before. It says that there is a problem with the air brakes. What are they like to repair?

Does anyone know what sort of fuel economy we are likely to expect?. I think it will be terrible on fuel.

We plan to remove a few seats and install some comforts such as a fridge for booze and some cup holders.....:D

It does sound like a bonkers idea but the stag has his heart set on this coach.

Gravs would know all about air brakes, the fuel is not bad I noticed in an airport coach theat 60mph was only 1400 rpm

I do have my doubts that it will actually happen. It does sound like a good laugh though

Ha that takes me back, many years ago now, we purchased an old 1972 Mercedes Coach in Belgium with a mere 896,000 miles on the clock and after enlisting the help of a Kiwi mechanic we drove it back to the UK, did it up and then drove it all the way to Nepal and then all around India and had 30 other people with us + Kiwi mechanic who was a godsend.....loads of good memories from that trip...although the 48 hours in an Iranian gaol was a bit iffy, as was being shot at in Syria.

I have an idea of running it on veg oil and we can store it easily too.

Where could we get a shower?????

Try Caravan shops; is the coach 12v or 24v? check first but a good cara shop will sort you out. Also have afresh water tank for cooking ,washing etc.:)

Washing!

A few points to think about:

1) Does anyone have the correct licence to drive this?

2) A brake chamber is easy to replace and about £200 depending on make etc, but air leaks can be a nightmare to find and costly to repair. Ok if it's a pipe or a joint, but not if it's a compressor.

3) I think you will have to have it MOT'd at a GVTS.

4) What are you going to do if you get a puncture or a blowout. In the UK, a blowout on the motorway costs me around £250 for the tyre, plus £80 call out fee. If this is in Europe, double it at least.

5) I have had a few vehicles and trailers that have been standing a while and the tyres deteriorate fast if they are not used. Once I had a trailer that had been standing 9 months and 3 tyres blew on the way to my yard.

6) Expect a fuel consumption of around 15 mpg for that model. Be prepared to push it uphill though;)

I am not trying to put a damper on things, merely stating a few of the many things you should think about. As there is no MOT, I would stay away from it. It could cost you £1000's to put through.

Far better off with a Winnebago that you can drive on a car licence and they have a toilet and a shower etc.:D

1. A mate has a licence

2. That does not sound too bad:o

3. Should not be a problem.

4.  . Its all part of the fun of it...I think

5. I will inspect the tyres. Thanks

6. I appreciate it will be slow especially in the Alps:D

Cough......20-30... :bannana:

I was thinking of lending you my Winnie, but is only a 6 berth (8 if you're good friends:rolleyes: )

I think you would need a double decked coach to be comfortable sleeping that amount.

20 - 30 blokes all in a confined space after consuming vast amounts of alcohol and food = smelly:devil:
