1980 450SLC
Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have just purchased (in the UK) a 'barn find' 1980 450 SLC which needs complete restoration and I'm hoping that some of you can help me locate any necessary parts that I may need? Also grateful for any help with engineers, etc that may be able to help in the Oxfordshire/Berkshire area? Any other advice would be most welcome as this my first restoration! I would like to keep it as original as possible but do you recommend any 'modern' upgrades such as wheels, braking systems, etc? Look forward to receiving your expert help in due course.

Go to 15 inch wheels for starters for a much wider range of tyres [cheaper too] and upgrade the ignition system --you will also have to use fuel additives in E5/E10 FUELS

Hi & welcome.

The main issue with an R107 is going to be structural rust, which is typically not visible until you start taking it apart. One major problem area is the bulkhead, which is a big/expensive repair job. So depending on your budget / skills the first thing to do would be an in-depth examination of the car as it may be a (much) bigger project than you realise. There have been quite a few threads here about R107 restorations over the years, which you should be able to find using the search tool. Most will be R107 SLs but I do remember one that was specifically about an SLC.

There are specialists out there who will help, again depending on your budget. E.g.

Good luck!

Lovely to hear of your project.

My late father on the right with his 450 SLC pictured when he got back home driving it from the factory and my uncles 2002tii in the background. Fond memories.
